Let’s learn about different kinds of amusement rides.
1. Ferris wheel /ˈfer.ɪs ˌwiːl/
a large, vertical wheel in an amusement park with seats that stay horizontal as the wheel turns round
2. roller coaster /ˈroʊ.lɚ ˌkoʊ.stɚ/
an exciting entertainment in an amusement park, like a fast train that goes up and down very steep slopes and around very sudden bends
3. free fall /ˌfriː ˈfɑːl/
an occasion when something or someone falls quickly under the influence of gravity
4. pirate ship /ˈpaɪr.ət ʃɪp/
a type of amusement ride based on pirate ships, consisting of an open, seated gondola which swings back and forth
5. merry-go-round /ˈmer.i.ɡoʊˌraʊnd/
a large machine at a fair that turns round and has wooden or plastic animals or vehicles on which children ride
6. bumper car /ˈbʌm.pɚ ˌkɑːr/
a small electric car is driven for entertainment in a special closed space at a fair, etc., where the aim is to try to hit other cars
7. teacup /ˈtiː.kʌp/
an amusement ride characterized by cup-shaped spinning vehicles atop a turntable-like floor.
8. haunted house /ˈhɑːn.t̬ɪd haʊs/
a form of live entertainment that simulates the experience of visiting haunted locations or storylines typical of horror fiction.
