Let’s learn about different shapes!
1. circle /ˈsɝː.kəl/
a continuous curved line, the points of which are always the same distance away from a fixed central point, or the area inside such a line
We sat in a circle.
2. oval /ˈoʊ.vəl/
shaped like a circle that is flattened so that it is like an egg or an ellipse

3. heart /hɑːrt/
a shape, consisting of two half circles next to each other at the top and a V shape at the bottom, often coloured pink or red and used to represent love
4. square /skwer/
a flat shape with four sides of equal length and four angles of 90°
It’s a square-shaped room.
5. triangle /ˈtraɪ.æŋ.ɡəl/
a flat shape with three straight sides

6. rectangle /ˈrek.tæŋ.ɡəl/
a flat shape with four 90° angles and four sides, with opposite sides of equal length

a shape with five sides and five angles

a shape with six straight sides
9. rhombus /ˈrɑːm.bəs/
a flat shape that has four sides that are all of equal length
10. trapezoid /ˈtræp.ɪ.zɔɪd/
a flat shape with four sides, where two of the sides are parallel

a curved shape that has two narrow pointed ends, like the moon when it is less than half of a circle
The moon was a brightly shining crescent.
16. cross /krɑːs/
an object in the shape of a cross that people were killed on, used as a symbol of Christianity
She wears a gold cross around her neck.
17. cube /kjuːb/
a solid object with six square sides of equal size
Cut the cheese into small cubes.
18. cylinder /ˈsɪl.ɪn.dɚ/
a solid or hollow tube with long straight sides and two circular ends the same size, or an object shaped like this, often used as a container
19. cone /koʊn/
a shape with a flat, round or oval base and a top that becomes narrower until it forms a point
a traffic cone
20. pyramid /ˈpɪr.ə.mɪd/
a solid object with a square base and four triangular sides that form a point at the top

covered with areas of different colors that do not form a regular pattern
27. serried /ˈser.id/
pressed closely together, usually in lines
We flew over the city with its serried ranks of identical grey houses.
28. variegated /ˈver.i.ə.ɡeɪ.t̬ɪd/
having a pattern of different colors or marks

29. spiral /ˈspaɪr.əl/
a shape made up of curves, each one above or wider than the one before
30. vertical /ˈvɝː.t̬ə.kəl/
a vertical line, surface, or position
