Part 1

1. pearl /pɝːl/
a small, round object, usually white, that forms around a grain of sand inside the shell of a sea creature, especially an oyster. Pearls are valuable and are used to make jewelry.

2. silver /ˈsɪl.vɚ/
a chemical element that is a valuable shiny, white metal, used for making cutlery (= knives, spoons, etc.), jewelry, coins, and decorative objects
made of silver, or of the color of silver

We gave them a dish made of solid silver as a wedding present.

3. gold /ɡoʊld/
a chemical element that is a valuable, shiny, yellow metal used to make coins and jewelry
made of gold, or the color of gold

4. brass  /bræs/
a bright yellow metal made from copper and zinc

The door handles were made of brass.

5. gem /dʒem/
a jewel (= precious stone), especially when cut into a particular regular shape

6. accessory /əkˈses.ər.i/
something added to a machine or to clothing that has a useful or decorative purpose

She wore a green wool suit with matching accessories.

7. anklet /ˈæŋ.klət/
a chain or ring worn as jewelry around the ankle

8. bangle /ˈbæŋ.ɡəl/
a ring of stiff plastic, metal, etc. worn around the wrist or arm as jewelry

9. brooch  /broʊtʃ/
a small piece of jewelry with a pin at the back that is fastened to a woman’s clothes

She wore a small silver brooch.

10. choker /ˈtʃoʊ.kɚ/
a narrow strip of cloth or a necklace that fits very closely around a woman’s neck

11. cameo /ˈkæm.i.oʊ/
a piece of usually oval jewelry on which there is a head or other shape of one color on a surface of a different color

a circular decoration, especially for the head, or a piece of jewelry in the shape of a circle

13. diadem /ˈdaɪ.ə.dem/
a small crown (= circular decoration for the head) with jewels in it

14. diamanté /diːəˈmɑːn.t̬eɪ/
artificial jewels that shine brightly

15. locket /ˈlɑː.kɪt/
a small piece of jewelry that opens to show a small picture or piece of hair, usually worn on a chain around a person’s neck

16. pendant /ˈpen.dənt/
a piece of jewelry worn around the neck, consisting of a long chain with an object hanging from it, or the object itself

She was wearing a crystal pendant.

17. stud /stʌd/
a small piece of metal jewelry that is put through a part of your body such as your ear or nose

a piece of metal in the shape of half a circle decorated with jewels that is worn on the head by a woman, especially a queen, etc., at very formal social occasions

19. bead  /biːd/
a small, colored, often round piece of plastic, wood, glass, etc. with a hole through it. It is usually put on a string with a lot of others to make jewelry

She wore a necklace of brightly colored wooden beads.

20. diamond /ˈdaɪ.ə.mənd/
a transparent, extremely hard precious stone that is used in jewelry, and in industry for cutting hard things

The tiara was set with diamonds and rubies.

23. plate /pleɪt/
to cover a metal object with a thin layer of another metal, especially gold or silver

We normally plate the car handles with nickel and then chrome.

24. platinum /ˈplæt.nəm/
a chemical element that is an extremely valuable silver-colored metal, used in jewelry and in industry

having been polished

26. glamorous  /ˈɡlæm.ə.əs/
attractive in an exciting and special way

28. embellishment /ɪmˈbel.ɪʃ.mənt/
something added to make another thing more beautiful or interesting

shining with a lot of small bright flashes of light

30. sparkling /ˈspɑːr.klɪŋ/
shining brightly
