Let’s learn about the different vocabulary of photography.

Part 1

1. camera  /ˈkæm.rə/
(n.)照相機;攝像機
a device for taking photographs or making films or television programs

2. photograph/ˈfoʊ.t̬oʊ.ɡræf/
(n.)照片,相片
a picture produced using a camera
(v.)攝影,照相
to take a picture using a camera

a color/black-and-white photograph   彩色/黑白照片

3. shoot   /ʃuːt/    
(v.)拍攝;拍照
to use a camera to record a video or take a photograph

We shot four reels of film in Egypt.

4. snapshot  /ˈsnæp.ʃɑːt/
(n.)照片,快照
a photograph

5. focus /ˈfoʊ.kəs/  
(v.)調節(相機、顯微鏡等的)焦距
If you focus on a device such as a camera or a microscope, you move a device on the lens so that you can see a clear picture.

6. exposure /ɪkˈspoʊ.ʒɚ/
(n.)(底片的)一張;曝光時間,曝光量
a single photograph on a piece of film, or the amount of time a piece of film is open to the light when making a photograph

There are 24 exposures on this film.
這個膠捲有24張底片。

7.  lens /lenz/ 
(n.)鏡片,鏡頭,透鏡
a curved piece of glass, plastic, or other transparent material, used in cameras, glasses, and scientific equipment, that makes objects seem closer, larger, smaller, etc.

the part of a camera that opens temporarily to allow light to reach the film when a photograph is being taken

9. sensor   /ˈsen.sɚ/

a device that is used to record that something is present or that there are changes in something

10. aperture  /ˈæp.ɚ.tʃɚ/
(n.)小孔;縫隙;(尤指照相機的)孔徑,光圈
a small and often narrow opening, especially one that allows light into a camera

14. frame  /freɪm/

a copy of something, especially a painting, or the process of copying something

The book contains excellent color reproductions of Monet’s paintings.

18. flashlight  /ˈflæʃ.laɪt/

it provides additional light when conditions become too dark to handhold your camera comfortably, allows you to achieve more balanced exposures in daylight conditions.

a support with three legs for a piece of equipment such as a camera

a brand name for a camera that takes a picture and prints it after a few seconds, or a photograph taken with this type of camera
