You can only use “Simple past tense” when mention about time.

1. I saw Gary yesterday. (not “ I have seen … ”)

2. Where were you on Friday night? (not “Where have you been … ”)

3. We didn’t take a vacation last year. (not “We haven’t taken … ”)

4. “What did you do last night?” “I stayed at home.”

5. William Shakespeare lived from 1564 to 1616. He was a writer. He wrote many plays and poems.

Use “Simple Past Tense” in “When … ?” or “What time …?” sentence

1. When did you buy your computer? (not “When have you bought … ”)

2. What time did Allison go out? (not “What time has Allison gone out?”)
