1. Bruise /bruːz/
(n) an injury or mark where the skin has not been broken but is darker in colour, often as a  result of being hit by something

(v) to break the surface of something, or to divide or make something smaller, using a sharp tool, especially a knife

(v) to break the surface of the skin by rubbing against something rough
