Let’s learn about the different vocabulary of the living room.

Part 1

1. wing chair /ˌwɪŋ ˈtʃer/
(n.) 翼狀靠背椅
a chair with a high back from which large side pieces stick out

2. armchair  /ˈɑːrm.tʃer/
(n.) 扶手椅
a comfortable chair with sides that support your arms

She sat in an armchair by the fire, reading a newspaper.
她坐在火爐旁的扶手椅上看報紙。

3. sofa  /ˈsoʊ.fə/
(n.)沙發
a long, soft seat with a back and usually arms, on which more than one person can sit at the same time

4. cushion  /ˈkʊʃ.ən/
(n.)墊子；座墊；靠墊
a bag made of cloth, plastic, or leather that is filled with soft material, often has an attractive cover and is used especially on chairs for sitting or leaning on

She sank back against/into the cushions.
她向後靠在墊子上。

5. telephone /ˈtel.ə.foʊn/
(n.)電話
a device that uses either a system of wires along which electrical signals are sent or a system of radio signals to make it possible for you to speak to someone in another place who has a similar device

6. speaker  /ˈspiː.kɚ/
(n.)揚聲器，喇叭
the part of a radio, television, or computer, or of a piece of electrical equipment for playing recorded sound, through which the sound is played. A speaker can be part of the radio, etc. or be separate from it

There’s no sound coming out of the right-hand speaker.

7. coffee table  /ˈkɑː.fi ˌteɪ.bəl/

a small, low table on which coffee is served or books and magazines are arranged

8. fireplace /ˈfaɪr.pleɪs/

a space in the wall of a room for a fire to burn in, or the decorated part that surrounds this space

She swept the ashes from the fireplace.

the part of a piece of equipment, especially electrical equipment, into which another part fits

18. photo frame/ˈfoʊ.t̬oʊ ˌfreɪm/
(n.)相框
a flat object with a clear front surface used to put a photograph in

19. chandelier /ˌʃæn.dəˈlɪr/
(n.)枝形吊燈；（尤指舊時用的）枝形燭臺
a decorative light that hangs from the ceiling and has several parts like branches for holding bulbs or, especially in the past, candles

20. grandfather clock /ˈɡræn.fɑː.ðɚ ˌklɑːk/

a tall clock in a wooden case that stands on the floor

(n.)躺椅
a long, low seat, with an arm at one side and usually a low back along half of its length, that a person can stretch out his or her legs on

a living thing that grows in earth, in water, or on other plants, usually has a stem, leaves, roots, and flowers, and produces seeds
